FilligreeFilligree was born on the eve of last years Your Horse Live, there we were meant to be preparing for a show and instead I had my hands full pulling out a little mare.
We hadn't planned on calling her Filly, but my daughter was so upset when I said that Filly wasn't actually a name, that we ended up calling her Filligree, which we thought was really pretty.
Filly was born out of our own hombred stallion Donner Breeze. He is by Donnersong, out of a Brentano II mare and is lovely but very led by his hormones. Her Dam Kelly was my old riding horse who sadly is breeding unknown, but mum to many of the horses you'll see pictured on this website, including the one that models most of our Bridles.
Filly is very sweet natured and absolutely loves a scratch on the bum. She's quite flightly which she gets from her mum, and has lovely movement which she gets from both. |

William WallaceWilliam Wallace II (Braveheart) is just that. This foal is also by our homebred Stallion Donner Breeze (Donnersong/Brentano II) and out of a Don Primero/Weltgeist mare whom I badgered the VDL Stud in Holland for.
William is a feisty thing (I'll try and get some video on here of him) and loves to kick up his heels. He strutts his stuff and seems to declare his love for himself with his puffed out chest and head tossing! You do have to watch his back heels though as he's quite quick with them.
I think thats a coltish thing though because none of our filly foals have ever been like that. He has recently decided though that actually having your bum scratched is much nicer than yahooing away, so gradually we are getting him out of that. As he's quite sharp we've been working to establish respect for humans and he's responding really well to backup and keeping out of your space.
I think he's going to be a lot of fun and we'll keep you posted on him. You can just see our stallion in the background, pacing back and forth. (Oh the male hormone!) |
