    Mattes Square Saddle Pads

    • Measurement A-B (Back Length) - Measure along the spine of the pad, from front to back.
    • Measurement C-D (Depth) - Measure from the top to the bottom of the pad..
    • Measurement E-F (Sheepskin Area) - The measurement will show you where the sheepskin underside will come to, if you choose any option with sheepskin that sits underneath the pad.
    • Measurement G-H (Width) - Measure half way down your current pad from front to back.
    • If you require sheepskin on the top, please allow 3cm overlap for each section when measuring for the correct length A-B (e.g. if you want front and back top sheepskin and your pad is 58cm long, deduct 6cm so 52cm is the space you can fit your saddle into.)

    Description

    Mattes Custom Square All Purpose Saddle Pads have been designed in two layers, a double layer of specially made polyester felt fabric for shape retention and pressure equalization, and polyester wadding for padding. Mattes do not use any foam, neoprene or gel and as a result, the whole structure is fully breathable, very important on a sweating horse and something that many all purpose saddle pads just can’t deal with. The internal structure is covered with a blended cotton twill quilt material that will not fade even after the pad has been washed or cleaned.

    The sheepskin on Mattes all purpose saddle pads is of very high quality, very dense and provides natural cushioning for the horse. You can choose a range of sheepskin options from the front only, front and rear as well as semi-lined or sickle-shaped underneath the saddle pad. Of course, if you don’t want sheepskin that’s no problem it is available without and we have many customers who order several different colours of saddle pads without the sheepskin.

    Mattes has introduced helpful elements to their sheepskin saddle pads such as Mattes SPINEFREE ® which reliably prevents any pressure on the withers and spine. SADDLE-FIX ® a secure fastening system so that the centre strip of the saddle pad can be easily fixed to the saddle.

    The optional Mattes CORRECTION ® system, with a single or a double pocket that can hold up to three, felt inserts each 5 mm thick, and closely matches the properties of a new saddle, padded with wool and horsehair. The shims allow for adjustments in the saddle position of up to 30mm. The correction system is extremely useful if your horse changes shape throughout the season.

    By now you can probably appreciate why we only recommend Mattes sheepskin saddle pads, in all our years of retailing, we simply haven’t found anything better. They sit perfectly on the horse and they look amazing as well.
