Overall Measurements
Generally, most bridles can be fitted with the first set of measurements we have provided, however, if you need more detailed measurements, we have provided these below for you.
If you find that your horse is a difficult fit, you can simply ask us to substitute parts of your bridle for the next size up. For example if your horse has a wide forehead, they may need the next size up on the browband, but the rest of the bridle fits perfectly within the size below.
To ask us to substitute any part, please send a note which is available when you check out your order.
Once you have these three measurements, compare them to our chart to get the best fit overall. For the Bit to Bit and Noseband Opening measurements, ensure your measurement is between the smallest and largest sizes shown in the table below. You will see overlap on all sizes which allows for adjustment for inbetween horses.
- Measurement A (bit to bit) - Measure from the top of your horses bit (where the cheekpiece connects) behind the horses ears and down to the other side of the horses bit.
- Measurement B (around the nose) - Measure around your horses nose, where the noseband will sit. (exceptions to this are the grackle and drop styles, which are detailed below)
- Measurement C (browband length) - Measure from one end of your browband to the other, or if this is a new horse and you don't have a bridle yet, use the image below on how to work out that measurement, choose the size that best fits your measurement, and if your horse is clearly in between then choose the larger of the sizes, since your browband may pinch your horses ears and cause discomfort.
Tyffany Browbands
- Measurement C (browband length) - Measure from one end of your browband to the other, or if this is a new horse and you don't have a browband yet, use the image below on how to work out that measurement, choose the size that best fits your measurement, and if your horse is clearly in between then choose the larger of the sizes, since your browband may pinch your horses ears and cause discomfort.
- Measurement B (browband depth) - This measurement is a guide for you as to the depth of the browband
- Measurement A (browband loop) - Use this measurement to check that the loop part will fit your existing headpiece.
- Measurement D (browband drop) - Use this measurement to check that the drop part will suit your horse.
Sport Swedish Noseband
- Measurement B (around the nose) - Measure around your horses nose, where the noseband will sit. The chart below shows smallest and largest measurements, which are based on the noseband fitted on the tightest hole and the loosest hole. Find the measurement where the smallest and the largest noseband measurement best fits your measurement.
- Measurement D (Depth of padded part, including padding) - This measurement will guide you as to how the depth of the noseband will look on your horse.
Headpiece & Cheekpieces
- Measurement A (bit to bit) - Measure from the top of your horses bit (where the cheekpiece connects) behind the horses ears and down to the other side of the horses bit. The final Bit to Bit Measurement is Measurement A+a.
- Measurement a (Cheekpiece Length, fastened) - This measurement is the length of your cheekpiece, looped and fastened either with a buckle or billet. On the diagram this is combined with the headpiece measurement A+a to arrive at the Bit to Bit measurement.
