      Mattes Square Saddle Pads

      • Measurement A-B (Back Length) - Measure along the spine of the pad, from front to back.
      • Measurement C-D (Depth) - Measure from the top to the bottom of the pad..
      • Measurement E-F (Sheepskin Area) - The measurement will show you where the sheepskin underside will come to, if you choose any option with sheepskin that sits underneath the pad.
      • Measurement G-H (Width) - Measure half way down your current pad from front to back.
      • If you require sheepskin on the top, please allow 3cm overlap for each section when measuring for the correct length A-B (e.g. if you want front and back top sheepskin and your pad is 58cm long, deduct 6cm so 52cm is the space you can fit your saddle into.)

      Custom / made-to-order: this item is produced to your chosen specification. Estimated production time depends on the brand: Mattes approx. 4 weeks, Fleck approx. 4 weeks, and Pink Equine approx. 8 weeks.

      Returns & exchanges

      Every order is checked by our team before it goes into production. If anything isn’t right when it arrives (faulty or incorrect), we’ll work with you to put it right.

      In-stock items: may be returned for a refund within 14 days of delivery, provided items are unused and returned in original condition.

      Custom / made-to-order items: once an order has been submitted for production, it cannot be cancelled. Where appropriate, these items are handled on an exchange basis. If you’re unsure about sizing or options, we strongly recommend using our consultation service before ordering.

      Mattes Jumping Pads

      If you are looking for jumping pads tailored to your exact requirements, Mattes jumping pads offer a fully custom solution. Each pad is made to order in your choice of cotton, cotton sheen, or velvet, with over 60 base colours available, alongside a wide range of rope, binding, and sheepskin options.

      These jumping pads are shaped specifically for use under English jumping saddles, ensuring a balanced fit and clean outline without excess material.

      Sheepskin options and comfort

      Mattes jumping pads can be ordered with or without sheepskin. A popular configuration includes front, rear, and underside sheepskin for enhanced cushioning and contact.

      The Merino lambskin used in all Mattes products is a natural fibre capable of absorbing significant moisture while remaining breathable. Its resilient structure supports even pressure distribution and helps maintain consistent temperature against the horse’s skin, making it particularly suitable for sensitive horses or those in regular work.

      Technical construction

      The core of Mattes jumping pads consists of a two-layer system:

      POLY-FLEX® (a needle-punched felt) for shape retention and pressure equalisation and Polyester wadding for structured padding

      Mattes do not use foam, neoprene, or gel in their jumping pads. The result is a breathable, flexible construction designed to reduce friction while maintaining stability under the saddle.

      SPINEFREE® and SADDLE-FIX®

      The SPINEFREE® design creates clearance along the spine and wither area to reduce pressure in these sensitive zones.

      For additional stability, the SADDLE-FIX® system allows the centre strip of the pad to be secured to the front and rear of the saddle, helping maintain consistent positioning during work.

      Optional CORRECTION® system

      Mattes jumping pads can also be ordered with the CORRECTION® system.

      This consists of either a single or double pocket on each side of the pad, allowing the insertion of up to three 5 mm POLY-FLEX® inserts per pocket. These inserts provide flexible adjustment of saddle balance and positioning. The system can be particularly useful for, young horses developing through training, horses changing shape during the season, maintaining saddle balance when minor adjustments are required. The CORRECTION® system allows adjustment of up to 30 mm without compromising the structure of the pad.
