    This Mattes square sheepskin saddle pad with shims is a stock-held option for riders who need subtle saddle balance adjustment alongside the comfort of genuine Mattes lambskin. It combines a four-pocket shim system with a SpineFree® design in a faster-available configuration compared with fully bespoke Mattes pads.

    Medium size saddle pads are available to fit All Purpose saddles and large size saddle pads to fit dressage saddles, both in a black cotton quilt with a choice of sheepskin styles and the trademarked 4 pocket Mattes correction pad system.     Mattes Square Saddle Pads

    • Measurement A-B (Back Length) - Measure along the spine of the pad, from front to back.
    • Measurement C-D (Depth) - Measure from the top to the bottom of the pad..
    • Measurement E-F (Sheepskin Area) - The measurement will show you where the sheepskin underside will come to, if you choose any option with sheepskin that sits underneath the pad.
    • Measurement G-H (Width) - Measure half way down your current pad from front to back.
    • If you require sheepskin on the top, please allow 3cm overlap for each section when measuring for the correct length A-B (e.g. if you want front and back top sheepskin and your pad is 58cm long, deduct 6cm so 52cm is the space you can fit your saddle into.)

    Mattes saddle pads are designed to improve comfort, stability, and pressure distribution while allowing precise fine-tuning of saddle balance where needed. This square sheepskin saddle pad with shims provides a technically correct solution for riders who require minor adjustment without compromising close contact or pad stability.

    Lambskin lining and comfort

    This saddle pad with shims features genuine Mattes lambskin at the front and underside, positioned in the saddle seat area where comfort matters most. The lambskin is carefully selected and matched for density and softness, helping to regulate temperature, reduce friction, and provide natural cushioning for the horse’s back.

    Lambskin supports even pressure distribution and is particularly beneficial for sensitive horses or those in regular work.

    Shim pockets and fit adjustment

    The pad is equipped with a four-pocket correction system, with two pockets on each side. These pockets are designed to accept removable POLY-FLEX® shims, allowing small, targeted adjustments to saddle balance.

    This system can be used to accommodate minor asymmetries, changes in muscle development, or temporary fit variations. The shim system is intended for fine adjustment only and should not be used to compensate for an incorrectly fitting saddle.

    SpineFree® design and pad shape

    An anatomically shaped topline combined with Mattes’ SpineFree® design allows the pad to sit clear of the horse’s spine. This helps reduce pressure along the back and supports correct saddle placement during work.

    The square pad shape provides balanced coverage under the saddle, making it suitable for jumping, all purpose, and dressage saddles depending on size and cut.

    Construction, care, and finishing

    The pad is finished with a durable cotton outer and premium Mattes stitching and finishing. The lambskin panels are securely fixed for consistent contact and stability. This pad is easy to care for and can be washed in the washing machine using appropriate lambskin detergent, or the specially designed Mattes MELP.

    This saddle pad is held in stock in black with matching lambskin and trim. It is available in:

    • Jumping: Medium and Large
    • All Purpose: Medium
    • Dressage: Large

    These options are held in stock in Mattes warehouse in Poland and allow for faster delivery compared with fully bespoke Mattes saddle pads. If you require a different colour, size, or configuration, a fully custom Mattes saddle pad with the full range of options can still be ordered with standard lead times.
