In the last few months, President Donald Trump introduced a number of tariffs affecting goods imported into the United States. While some of these measures, like temporary restrictions on shipments from China and Hong Kong, have since been reversed, others remain in place for the foreseeable future.
Understandably, some of our customers in the U.S. are concerned about how these tariffs might affect their international purchases, especially from the UK.
If you’re shopping with us from the United States, you can relax. Orders shipped from the UK to the U.S. that are under $800 are currently not affected by these tariffs, and our customers continue to receive their goods without added complications or hidden charges related to any tariffs.
A tariff is essentially a tax imposed on goods imported from other countries. For example, if the U.S. placed a 10% tariff on imported books, a $10 book would be subject to $1 in tax before it could be cleared through customs, in addition to any shipping or handling fees.
At the time of writing, there are no significant changes to how goods are imported from the UK into the U.S. The de minimis threshold — the value below which goods can be imported free of duty and taxes — remains at $800 (approximately £630).
That means if your order total is under $800, you won’t pay any customs duty at all. And even if your order exceeds that amount, import taxes remain minimal, typically around 10%.
Absolutely — especially when it comes to Mattes products. Even after factoring in international shipping, U.S. customers typically save between 20% and 50% by ordering directly from us in the UK.
